People have been saying that this DLC is going to be big. I'm not sure how big, like Shivering Isles or Bloodmoon big, or Knights of the Nine big. I do like that it is going to add a vast amount content outside of land area. The team at Bethesda has added two new perk trees, and taken their interpretation of vampires to the next level. No sparkles or melancholy here!
The revamping of the vampires is a welcome change. In Morrowind playing as a vampire was nearly counter productive since anything of any value that you wanted to do took way too close to the population if not in it. And without a decent fast travel system you had only a couple of hours of game time to travel unless you were completely vampired up. And after a certain you couldn't even become a vampire anymore. Oblivion was much the same and I found myself on several occasions during gameplay to have accidently become a vampire. Thankfully the Vile Lair took care of that little issue and the vampire cure quest bugs.
Now in Dawnguard we will shown an all out war against the peoples of Skyrim and the vampires who are set on destroying the sun. In comes the valiant Dawnguard that gives the DLC its name. Choose a side f either vampire or Dawnguard and let the good times roll.
Dawnguard Castle....weeeeee!!!
Being a long standing fan of the series (since I first got Morrowind for PC), its always good to see the developers pushing the envelope for the DLC, and I for one am extremely happy to see that Bethesda has chosen the high road of content and concept over number and speed.
The vampires seem to finally be getting their day in the sun, pun intended, and some cool new abilities and digs to boot. The abilities to turn into a monstrous "vampire lord" that looks like something out of Underworld and turning into a flock, heap, or whatever of bats I am for once actually excited to play as a vampire. Provided I will have to start a new character to accommodate, but who's complaining about more play time?
I also like that those that choose the vampire path get access to a new daedric realm. With a revamped look it should be pretty cool to play here as well. Gone are the flames and pools of lava, now its creep stone formations, and a strange purple haze that lends to more of a feel of gloom than of fear.
CREEPY!!
I can't wait for this DLC to come out and get my hands on it, and I will surely offer up my opinions once it hits. I'm hoping for at least 20 good hours of content to dig into and some unexpected twists and turns along the way, just like Bethesda is good for. Thanks for reading, and keep coming back for some more content in a couple days!
